ASTM A249 TP316L Tube (Pipe) Supplier & Exporter in India

ASTM A249 TP316L Tube (Pipe) is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel welded tube manufactured for boilers, superheaters, heat exchangers, and condensers. TP316L is the low-carbon version of TP316, containing a maximum of 0.035% carbon to minimize the risk of sensitization during welding.

The addition of 2.0–3.0% molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride-containing environments. Due to its reduced carbon content, TP316L offers improved resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding, making it highly suitable for heavily fabricated and welded structures. Although commonly referred to as “pipe” in trade terminology, ASTM A249 technically covers welded stainless steel tubes.

Difference Between TP316 and TP316L

  • TP316 Carbon Content: Maximum 0.08%
  • TP316L Carbon Content: Maximum 0.035%

The lower carbon content in TP316L significantly reduces carbide precipitation during welding, preventing intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone and improving long-term durability in corrosive environments.

Key Features of ASTM A249 TP316L

  • Improved Weldability
Low carbon content prevents chromium carbide formation during welding, protecting against intergranular corrosion.
  • Superior Corrosion Resistance
Molybdenum addition enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments.
  • Excellent High Temperature Performance
Maintains strength and oxidation resistance under elevated temperature service conditions.
  • Good Fabrication Characteristics
Suitable for forming, bending, and welding in complex industrial assemblies.
  • ASTM A249 Compliance
Manufactured according to ASTM A249 requirements for welded austenitic stainless steel boiler and heat exchanger tubes.
